On planning the garden

Last weekend I took the first cuttings for the new garden. We'll be there in just over a month. The greenhouse is the first thing that will go in, cuttings potted up, space for the peonies and irises to begin their life. New fencing will go in, beech hedging planted, time to plan which roses will go where, and figure out climbers for shady mornings and full sun afternoons.

The apple hedge will be in before the building work is finished and I think cherries will also need to have a home on the north wall. We can't not have cherries!

After eleven years we're currently having our first bumper crop – enough to take little bags of them out to the neighbours yesterday evening.

We aren't sure quite how long we'll be in the Victorian cottage, whether we'll see the first bumper crop of cherries there. Time will tell.
